The vehicle (1) has a body (2) with a sheet metal structure, with its roof supported by two lengthwise lateral ribs (3) and two cross-members. It is fitted with a permanent roof top box with its base formed by the sheet metal or plastic roof skin (4) and a hinged lid (6). Each hinge (5) is in two sections (51, 52), one fixed to the body structure and the other to the roof. The lid is held in its open position by gas cylinders (7), and is closed by a lock with a catch plate on the box base.
