Coloring and lightening human keratinic material comprises applying a composition comprising a fluorescent compound and an optical brightener. Independent claims are also included for: (1) composition comprising a soluble fluorescent compound and a soluble optical brightener in a cosmetically acceptable medium; and (2) kit comprising one compartment containing a composition comprising a fluorescent compound and an optical brightener and optionally a direct dye and/or an oxidation dye developer and/or coupler and another compartment containing a composition comprising an oxidizing agent.
