System for managing a fleet of fax machines connected to a same local network

The system has a transmitting unit, at a fax machine, to transmit an identification frame including logical and physical address. A receiving unit, at a management unit (30), receives the frame. Management information is exchanged between the machine and the unit (30) if connection is established with server in machine and a logical address is requested to be associated to the physical address if connection is not established.
