The method involves sending a distinct signal e.g. short message service (SMS), from a mobile subscriber to a mobile telecommunication network. A binary state i.e. the presence or absence of the subscriber is determined according to the reaction of the network with the SMS of the subscriber. The determined state of the subscriber is communicated to an application server. An independent claim is also included for a system of informing presence or absence of mobile subscriber on mobile telecommunication network to an application server.
