The encoder has a magnetic track with magnetization in the form of strip that is polarized alternately. A marking section (2) defines a top dead center of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine for measuring relative position of a crankshaft. The marking section is limited from two sides of a non magnetized central zone (5) by magnetic poles (3,4) in the form of strip and of same polarization.
