Preparing neurons from the human embryonal teratocarcinoma cell line NT2, useful in research and for transplantation e.g. in neurodegenerative disease, by culturing as spheres then inducing differentiation
Preparation of neurons (A) from the cell line NT2 (human embryonal teratocarcinoma) that can differentiate, to (A) in particular. Preparation of neurons (A) from a cell line that can differentiate to produce (A), in particular, comprises culturing the cells as spheres, preferably with exposure to growth factors such as epidermal growth factor (EGF) and/or basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), in a growth medium, then inducing differentiation of the spheres by spreading them on an adhesive substrate (after removing the growth factors) and culturing in a growth medium. The new feature is that the cell line NT2 (human embryonal teratocarcinoma) is used. ACTIVITY : Neuroprotective; Cerebroprotective; Vulnerary; Ophthalmological. No details of tests for these activities are given. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Replacement of neurons.
