The generator has three non linear feedback shift registers (101-103) with respective outputs (101a-103a). A combination unit (120) has a multiplier (120a) and adder (120b) to combine the outputs of the non linear feedback shift registers to obtain a combined signal comprising a pseudo random number at an output (122) of the combination unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for generating a pseudo-random number (b) a computer program having a program code to perform a method of generating a pseudo-random number.
