The procedure for making a fabric containing optical fibres (2) used at least partially as weft yarns and natural or synthetic fibres as warp yarns (5), with the optical fibres treated after weaving so that they diffuse light perpendicular to their lengthwise axes, uses a Jacquard weave containing at least two bundles (3, 4) of optical fibres which are separated and identified during the weaving process. The optical fibres are incorporated in the weave so that the feed sections (9, 10) of the different bundles are located on the same side of the fabric and/or at a predetermined distance from its edge.
