The method involves finding a time period separating passage of dents (1, 2, and 58) of teeth in a toothed disk. A time interval called window (2) is defined by an angular position determination device during the passage of each tooth. The reference is detected when no signal corresponding to a detection of a tooth edge is sensed in the predefined window and when the device awaits a reference. An independent claim is also included for application of the toothed disk reference detecting method.
