The engine has a cylinder (12) equipped with an exhaust unit (20) and an intake unit (14). The unit (14) is controlled through a shutter, and the cylinder has an additional exhaust unit (26) provided with an additional exhaust tube (28) and an additional exhaust valve (30). The valve (30) has a section with diameter lower than that of an exhaust valve (24) for permitting evacuation of different quantities of exhaust gas. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling exhaust gas exited from an overfed internal combustion engine.
