The mechanism includes a jaw clutch (6) with a side (620) engaging a recess (10) of a pinion (2) mounted on a shaft (1) of a gearbox. The shaft comprises of a longitudinal slot (7). The clutch constitutes an arm (61) traversing the slot and a free end part with the side. An electric motor (3), screw (4) and a swivel (5) drive the clutch along the shaft. An independent claim is also included for a gearbox comprising a mechanism.
