The method involves forming one transversal folding axis on a longitudinal part (1a) of a mattress, at a distance with respect to a stopper. Another transversal folding axis is formed on a longitudinal part (1b) of the mattress and the part (1b) is folded longitudinally on the part (1a). A part (1c) of the mattress close to its one end is folded longitudinally around a lifting unit (7) to fold the mattress in Z. An independent claim is also included for a device for folding in Z and for packing of a mattress.
