The process involves setting a measuring unit (16) in rotating movement under the effect of the circulation of water crossing a liquid meter and transmitting the rotating movement to a totalizer (22). A floating body is moved based on the quantity of gas present. The body is made to act on the unit (16) or magnets (24, 26) to allow or prevent the rotating movement and metering of the liquid. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a liquid meter placed in a pipe that contains a gas (b) an application of a process and a liquid meter for the metering of water flowing in a pipe containing air.
