The system has logical units comprising disk devices for a disk array. A disk controller (250) receives control instruction program from a computer (100) that access the disk array. The controller then controls the turn on or off of disk devices corresponding to the logical unit specified by the computer, independent of the disk devices corresponding to other logical units, based on the program.
