The method involves defining a syndrome matrix in which element of each row is calculated from a syndrome of a received word. A bi-phase decoding algorithm is applied to the matrix that provides a set of polynomials called phase locating candidates. Erroneous components of the received word are identified among aggregates determined by calculating roots of X polynomial locator in the set of polynomials. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a digital coded signal receiving device comprising a decoder with an error correction device (B) a computer system comprising a decoder (C) a detachable data storing unit comprising instructions of a computer program code for implementing a method of decoding algebraic geometric code.
