Submerged or floating obstacle avoiding device for e.g. catamaran type high speed boat, has signal processing unit that determines obstacle position and utilizes Doppler differences consecutive to emission from sonar emitters
The device has two sonar emitters (23, 25), and a sonar receiver (29) with its reception band adapted to emission frequency of the emitters. A signal processing unit permits to determine position of a floating or submerged object (27) from echoes returned by the object. The processing unit utilizes Doppler differences existing between reflected signals corresponding to same echo and consecutive to emission from each emitter. An independent claim is also included for an application of a submerged or floating obstacle avoiding device to a multi-hulled ship.
