Washing composition (A) for keratin materials comprises, in an aqueous medium, at least one cationic or amphoteric polymer (I); at least one surfactant (II) and either a solution, or dispersion of particles, of water-soluble polymer (III). Washing composition (A) for keratin material comprises, in an aqueous medium, at least one cationic or amphoteric polymer (I); at least one anionic, nonionic or amphoteric surfactant (II) and at least one of (a) a dispersion of particles of a water-soluble polymer (III), in an aqueous salt solution and (b) an aqueous solution of (III). (III) has weight average molecular weight over 106 and is prepared by heterogeneous, free-radical polymerization of water-soluble monomers, at least one of which is cationic, with precipitation of the (III) formed.
