The method involves calculating a rate of potential utilization of an entity of an image for forward and backward predictive coding of other two images, based on a number of field vectors of the forward and backward movement vectors of the other images pointing on the entity. The entity of the former image is coded based on the rate of potential utilization of the image entity. An independent claim is also included for a method of structuring a group of pictures implementing a method of coding a video image sequence.
