The instrument has a microcontroller (110) and a memory card connector (140) constituting a memory card reading unit that reads data representative of musical notes. The data is stored in a memory card e.g. electrically erasable programmable ROM (160), and the reading unit reads the data in a sequential manner, at frequency proportional to rotational speed of a handle (170). The reading unit writes the data in a shift register.
