The device has a compact disc-read only memory (CD-ROM) (2) for storing medical data. A data base server (4) records the data in the CD-ROM. The server and CD-ROM communicate with each other for exchanging data through a communication network e.g. Internet, across a computer (3). The CD-ROM has application software (7) for reading the data and writing new data to the CD-ROM, where the software can be executed entirely from the CD-ROM.
