New mixed dyes (I) contain: (a) at least two chromophores (CP's), including at least one CP of the nitrated (hetero)aromatic type and optionally at least one CP of the cyclic azine, methine and/or carbonyl type; and (b) at least one linking arm (LA), joining the CP's and preventing delocalization of their electrons. Independent claims are included for: (1) dyeing compositions (A) comprising at least one of the mixed dyes (I) in a medium suitable for dyeing keratin fibers; (2) a method for dyeing keratin fibers, involving applying (A) to the wet or dry fibers (optionally in presence of oxidizing agent(s)) and (after a suitable contact time) optionally rinsing, washing, rinsing and drying; and (3) a multicompartment device, having a first compartment containing (A) (optionally including direct dye(s) other than (I), oxidation base(s) and/or coupler(s)) and a second compartment containing oxidizing agent(s).
