The device has an enclosure (20) including a hollow cylindrical tube (10) forming a chimney, delimited by a wall equipped with openings. The hollow tube is surrounded by a mass of combustible material and the dimensions of the openings are less than dimensions of solid units constituting the combustible material. The hollow tube receives and/or contains a material e.g. paper, permitting to start combustion of the combustible material. The hollow tube is realized in metallic wire mesh or perforated sheet metal.
