The method involves applying source patterns (15, 35, 55) containing a shallow image on a surface portion of an object (20). Decoding films (23, 43, 63) having decoding patterns (13, 33, 53) are applied on the surface portion such that the shallow image can be readable by indirect visualization across a decoding pattern superposed with the source pattern. The shallow image is unreadable by direct visualization. An independent claim is also included for a device for protection of an object for the antifalsification and authentication purpose.
