The method involves changing value of an output variable e.g. charge, of an internal combustion engine (1) by simultaneously controlling a throttling valve (10) and a charge displacement valve (15) in a coordinated manner. The valve (10) is installed in an air supply conduit (20) and used for adjusting charge of a combustion chamber (5) of the engine. The valve (15) is utilized to communicate air supplied by the conduit to the chamber. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine management device.
