The method involves radially inserting coils (73) of each of multiple electrically conducting wires of phase windings (70) of a corrugated winding, in a series of slots (30) of a stator. The coils of different wires radially superpose in a predetermined order and alternate in a predetermined order of superposition. The wires are simultaneously inserted into the slots. Each wire forms a spiral around an inner face of laminations. An independent claim is also included for a stator of a polyphase rotating machine, such as alternator or alternator-starter of motor vehicle.
