Treatment of a volume of particles of a conducting material, to increase the specific surface of the material, comprises diffusing a cold plasma within the entire volume of the particles such that the plasma circulates around each particle to modify its surface and to increase the specific surface of the material in a homogeneous way within the entire volume. An independent claim is also included for a device (I) to treat the volume comprising an enclosure (1), in which the volume of particles to be treated is positioned on a means of reception (4), means (2) to establish and to control a pressure reduced within the enclosure (1) and a means (5, 6, 7, 8) of production of a cold plasma, in which it integrates a means (8, 9) to diffuse cold plasma within the entire volume, such that the cold plasma circulates around each particle to modify its surface and to increase the specific surface of material in a homogeneous way within the entire volume.
