A system to automatically collect market research information that measures the state and usage of a consumer product, item or packing 3 with a sensor 1 and transmits this information to the product supplier at a remote location 14. This information may be transmitted via a base station 5, sited locally to the consumer or product user. Queries can be sent from supplier to the base station 5 to be view on a display 7 by the consumer or product user. The consumer or product user is asked to respond to these queries by use of a keypad or buttons 6. The responses are transmitted to the product supplier for display on a computer 14 or as a web-based page on the internet.
