A method for matching surface features to aid 3-dimensional model rendering comprises the initial characterisation of features identified in a first image by creation of a feature vector template which is configured to represent a number of feature vectors defining features on a first surface. Notably, the template is configured to comprise a hinge part from which extend a plurality of feature vectors. An image of a second surface is subsequently searched in order to attempt to match a corresponding set of features to those found on the first surface. When a suitable match is found, the data points may be processed in order to derive a 3-dimensional model of the surface.
