PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biodegradable lubricant which can satisfy both a splash-preventing property and a low temperature performance at high levels and enables the stable operations of agricultural or silvecultural machines over long periods. PSOLUTION: This lubricant for the agricultural or silvicultural machines is characterized by containing at least one of the following esters (A) and (B) and having a kinetic viscosity of 100 to 500 mmSP2/SP/s at 40C. (A) The ester produced from an alcohol containing a polyhydric alcohol and an acid containing a polybasic acid. (B) The ester produced from a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid containing an unsaturated fatty acid in an amount of 30 mol.%, wherein the unsaturated bonds originated from the unsaturated fatty acid are epoxidized.
