PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the total cost performance of a wear resistant component by improving the corrosion resistance, cold workability and wear resistance of a Cr based stainless steel wire rod or steel wire.;SOLUTION: The Cr based stainless steel wire rod or steel wire has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.05 to 0.30% C, 0.05 to 2.0% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, 12 to 17.5% Cr, 0.05 to 3.0% Mo and 0.01 to 0.15% N, further comprising one or more kinds selected from 0.05 to 1.0% Nb, 0.05 to 1.0% Ti and 0.05 to 1.0% V, and satisfying the conditions that PI value by formula (A) is ≥14.0 and CI value by formula (B) is 3 to 20, and comprises carbonitride (carbide+nitride) of 1 to 8% by the total content in the matrix composed of a ferritic structure: PI value=Cr+3Mo-17C-7N (A), and CI value=(V+Ti+Nb)/C (B).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
