PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound which has a sufficiently large number of H+ ions per molecule, and therefore exhibits a higher catalytic activity than a conventional heteropolyacid and is stable as a catalyst and to provide a method for producing the novel compound in a good yield.;SOLUTION: The heteropolyacid is represented by formula (1). Formula (1) is H8[P2W15TiO54(OH2)2]2×(xH2O) (wherein x is an integer of 1 to 100). The heteropolyacid of formula (1) can be produced by forming an ether adduct of the heteropolyacid of formula (1) by treatment including the following steps (A) and (B) and removing the ether from the ether adduct: step (A) of acidifying an aqueous solution of a heteropolyacid salt represented by formula (2) with sulfuric acid, and step (B) of adding an ether to the aqueous solution of the heteropolyacid represented by formula (2).
