PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a postal item reading/sorting machine having an enhanced operation rate by displaying a plurality of sorting screens at the same time and enabling the use of it.;SOLUTION: Unless total switching is not made (No in S1), allotment is checked if a sorting port currently used overlaps a sorting port used in a sorting screen employed after the switching (S2). If no abnormality is found by checking the allotment, this sorting screen is newly added and set (S3). After the above addition, an operator takes out an postal item sorted in a format rejection sorting port. In a step S4, if an error such as a double allotment of a sorting port is not found in checking of sorting screen alottment (No in S4), the sorting port shown in the sorting screen is allotted. Sorting screen information is loaded according to the allotment, and gates are controlled so as to prevent postal items sorted according to the sorting screen before and after switching from being mixed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
