PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for retaining freshness of a plant with cut root part such as a cut flower and an agent set for retaining freshness of the plant.;SOLUTION: The agent for retaining freshness of a plant with cut root part comprises an α-ketol unsaturated fatty acid derivative represented by general formula (1) (R₁ is a 1-5C straight-chain alkyl group or a 2-5C straight-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon group in which the number of double bond is one or two; R₂ is a 1-15C straight-chain alkylene or a 2-15C straight-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon chain in which the number of double bond is 1-3).
