PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing stilbene tetramer having dibenzobicyclo[3.2.1]octadiene structure and suitable for mass production.;SOLUTION: The stilbene tetramer (the first compound) having dibenzobicyclo[3.2.1]octadiene structure is produced by dissolving a stilbene tetramer (the second compound) having dibenzobicyclo[3.2.0]octadiene structure in an aprotic polar solvent and performing a skeletal transformation step transforming the structure of the second compound in the presence of an acid catalyst comprising an acid having stronger acid strength than sulfuric acid. When using Vaticanol B represented by chemical formula 5 as the second compound, Vaticanol C represented by chemical formula 2 and/or its stereo isomer are produced. The Vaticanol C and its stereoisomer can be fractionated by purification process comprising a combination of gel filtration column chromatography and reversed phase column chromatography.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
