PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately predict an occurrence position of micro-porosity in a casting.;SOLUTION: A prediction method for the occurrence of micro-porosity in a casting comprises: steps 200-203 in which the longitudinal direction of the casting at a hollow long plate-like portion is defined as a molten metal replenishing route, and a final solidified position and an isolated solidified position in an optional cross section perpendicular to the replenishing route are obtained through solidification analysis; and steps 204-207 in which the micro-porosity is judged to occur when Gs or Gs/R is below a prescribed value, wherein Gs denotes a temperature gradient of a molten metal in a replenishing direction at the solidifying time in the final solidified position and the isolated solidified position in the above cross section, and R denotes cooling speed at the solidifying time in the above positions.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
