PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television in which power is turned off by detecting end of television broadcast more accurately, and to provide an auto shut-off method of a television.;SOLUTION: When absence of a sync signal is detected, number of sync signals is counted while performing time check of a predetermined period until the time check is ended. Upon elapsing that period, detection rate of sync signal indicated by the count is compared with a threshold. If a result sufficient for judging that no TV broadcast signal exist in that period is obtained, auto-shut off is realized. Consequently, time check does not end even if a decision is made that a sync signal exists due to noise, and auto-shut off can be realized accurately based on the fact that no sync signal exist.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
