PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yttrium-containing radiotherapeutic agent having a size injectable into blood vessels and low specific gravity, and to provide a method for producing the radiotherapeutic agent.;SOLUTION: The radiotherapeutic agent has a diameter of 5 μm or larger but smaller than 300 μm and a shell thickness of 0.3 μm or greater but less than 20 μm and consists of yttrium-containing microballoons as oxide crystal containing ≥47 mass% yttrium. The method for producing the radiotherapeutic agent comprises the step of dispersing an organic solvent solution of a yttrium alkoxide in a polar solvent immiscible with the organic solvent to form gel membrane at the interface, the step of precipitating and retrieving the gel membrane, the step of drying the retrieved gel membrane, the step of baking the dried gel membrane to obtain microballoons, and the step of irradiating the microballoons with thermal neutron beams.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
