PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of changing over the presence or the no presence of a display by a head-up display of road shape, by automatically deciding whether a driver needs the display of front road shape.;SOLUTION: A navigation device for a vehicle acquires a foreground image from a camera for foreground recognition (205), and detects the good/poor state of the visual field of a front glass on the basis of the foreground image (215) and the state of the luminance contrast of the foreground image (235, 240). Moreover, the device detects the distance to an obstacle, using an obstacle detector (210).
