PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide priority access to an IEEE 802.11 endpoint using a distributed coordination function (DCF) that provides priority access to a non-IEEE 802.11e endpoint without requiring client modification. PSOLUTION: This method for providing priority access to the IEEE 802.11 endpoint includes a step of sending a Clear To Send (CTS) frame from a designated station, without requiring a Request to Send (RTS) frame from a first station. The CTS frame includes a field identifying a first station for commencing transmission, and a field indicating the duration of transmission. A postponement step is also performed for postponing the transmission of a station other than the first station until a period of time indicated in the CTS frame has elapsed.
