PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace type atomic absorption spectrophotometer constituted so as to detect the abnormality of a current generated under a relatively low current not reaching the maximum heating current capable of being permitted by an apparatus, to safely stop the heating current, and to prevent any damage of constituent parts.;SOLUTION: The heating current supplied to a graphite tube 1 is detected by a current sensor 3 and compared with an output of a standard waveform generator 8 set according a temperature program. When the difference between the current and the output of the standard waveform generator is large than a preset error, a switch 10 is cut off by a signal from a comparator 9 and the connection of a control element 7 and a heating current control part 14 is cut off to interupt a heating sequence.
