PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an individual recognition method and system, which is capable of highly accurately recognizing an individual regardless of the photographing distance or photographing angle of an image. PSOLUTION: The individual identification system comprises: a movement path preparation means 3 for obtaining the movement path of the specified part of a walker from moving images for which a walking movement is photographed; a speed calculation means 4 for calculating the speed of the specified part from the movement path; a speed decomposition means 5 for decomposing the speed of the specified part into components in a vertical direction and an advancing direction; a frequency spectrum calculation means 6 for calculating a frequency spectrum at least for the component in one direction of the components in the two directions; an evaluation function calculation means 7 for calculating the evaluation function of the frequency spectrum; an evaluation function storage means 8 for recording the evaluation function of a specified person; a Euclid distance calculation means 9 for calculating the Euclid distance between the evaluation function of the walker and the evaluation function of the specified person recorded in the evaluation function storage means 8; and an identity judgement means 10 for judging that the specified person and the walker between which the Euclid distance is the minimum are the same person.
