PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of weld defects, such as lack of penetration and slag inclusion, by maintaining a penetration state uniform over the entire length of a pipe.;SOLUTION: The distance between a welding electrode and the pipe is measured during welding, and the height for holding the pipe is adjusted at least at one point in the longitudinal direction of the pipe so as to confine the distance between the welding electrode and the pipe within a target range.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
