PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for investigating the interior of a main column material without affecting the strength of the main column material, and to provide a steel tower suitable for the method.;SOLUTION: Bolt holes and a cutting plane line are marked off on the main column material 104a (ST102). A member grip tool is then fitted (ST103). Bolt holes are made as marked off, and the main column material 104a is cut along the cutting plane line (ST104). A butt joint 300 is once assembled (ST105) and disassembled (ST106). A top plate 103a is removed, and a fiberscope is inserted from an opening 102a of the main column material 101a to carry out internal investigation (ST107). When the internal investigation is completed, the top plate 103a is mounted to a top plate mounting part 102a (ST108).
