PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structural design method for a slanted lattice type brace capable of executing a rational design of the slanted lattice type brace by properly evaluating the yield strength of brace members subjected to compressive forces based on a simple method thereby permitting to perform a rational design of the slanted lattice type brace and to provide the slanted lattice type brace.;SOLUTION: The slanted lattice type brace comprises a rectangular peripheral steel frame built along columns and beams in a column-and-beam framing and a plurality of brace members made with the same kind of material each having the same cross sectional area and being arranged in the peripheral steel frame. In this structural design method, a plurality of brace members are arranged to a lattice shape slanted with respect to the horizontal and are located with their central axis lines positioned in the same plane, with the intersecting portions connected rigidly each other and with both the end portions connected also rigidly. Items shown below for the brace members subjected to compressive forces are so determined that the compressive stress σ acting on the brace members becomes less than σc as determined by an equation 2 in this design method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
