PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present a designing technique for an optical constant optimum value of a condenser lens contributing to an improvement in effective aperture efficiency of a projection type display device and an improvement in the life of a display panel, and to provide microlenses by the technique. PSOLUTION: The improvement in effective aperture efficiency by an increase in quantity of light transmitting through a pixel aperture portion by effectively converging illumination light incident on a region other than the pixel aperture portion by a lens, is taken into consideration and its effect is evaluated through a simulation analysis to obtain an effective optical constant, based upon which a flat lens array is fabricated. At this time, the optical constant is set in consideration of not only light convergence efficiency, but also the life of an irradiated body. For example, actual light convergence efficiency is sacrificed and made a little lower than the efficiency maximum value of a light converging lens when a light convergence point is set on an irradiated layer. The degree of light convergence (light intensity) at the aperture part is decreased to realize high effective numerical aperture by converging the light on the aperture portion of an irradiated body and effectively using it and also securely prolong the light-tight life of an organic material etc., used for the irradiated layer of the irradiated body.
