PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferrule holding member for an optical receptacle manufacturable inexpensively, having reduced connection loss, enabling a projected curved face connected to the end face of a ferrule at the distal end side to be easily formed in proper shape and characteristic, and with no possibility of lowering in connection efficiency.;SOLUTION: The ferrule holding member 3 includes, in the inner hole of a sleeve 4 and midway in the axial direction thereof, a transparent body 5 having a first end face 5a for bringing the end face 6a of a plug ferrule 6 into contact therewith, wherein the first end face 5a of the transparent body 5 is formed in the projected curved face by a heat treatment. More desirably, the projected curved face 5a is formed in an unpolished face, and the area of the projected curved face 5a with a radius of 75 μm or longer about the axis Z of the sleeve 4 is formed in a projected spherical face.
