PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of securely carrying paper and avoiding the occurrence of defective paper feeding, an automatic document carrying device capable of securely carrying documents and avoiding the occurrence of the defective paper feeding, and an image forming device having the paper feeder and the automatic document carrying device.;SOLUTION: A paper feed roller 30 is installed so as to be extensible in the direction of a rotating shaft 25 supporting the paper feed roller 30. Also, an adjusting means 50 adjusts the length of the contact portion of the paper feed roller 30 with paper sheets 9. When a retry operation is performed, the adjusting means 50 increases the length of the contact portion of the paper feed roller 30 with the paper sheets 9 by extending the paper feed roller 30 in the direction of the rotating shaft 25.
