PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parallel multiple cylinder engine capable of equalizing center of gravity in the left and right directions and reducing vehicle width in the vicinity of a knee position of a rider when loading the engine in a motorcycle.;SOLUTION: This parallel multiple cylinder engine E is provided with a crank shaft 32 for outputting rotation, an intake cam shaft 30 arranged by making the direction of axial length substantially parallel with the direction of vehicle width in an upper part of a cylinder head 20, an exhaust cam shaft 31 arranged substantially in parallel with the intake cam shaft 30 in front of the intake cam shaft 30, and a variable valve timing mechanism 68 having a hydraulic actuator 66 for changing difference in phase between the crank shaft 32 and the intake cam shaft 30. A rotation transmission mechanism 28 for transmitting rotation of the crank shaft 32 to the intake cam shaft 30 or the exhaust cam shaft 31 is provided in one side part of the cylinder head 20, and the hydraulic actuator 66 is provided in the other side part of the cylinder head 20.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
