PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically calculate the viscosity coefficient of a dispersing medium indispensable to the operation of particle size distribution from the temperature in the measurement to use the same in the operation for calculating particle size distribution. ;SOLUTION: In a particle size distribution measuring apparatus, scattered beam 9 generated by irradiating samples 3, 4 to be measured with laser beam 6 is converted to an electrical detection signal, and this detection signal is inversely operated to calculate the particle size distribution F(D) of particles contained in the samples. The apparatus has memory parts 18, 19 for storing approximate curve formulae Fx of temperature and a viscosity coefficient at every solvents; a temperature sensor 15 for measuring the temperature X of the samples; and an operational processing part 17 for calculating the viscosity coefficient Y from the temperature X measured in the measurement by the temperature sensor 15, by selecting one of the stored solvents and substituting the viscosity coefficient Y for a Stokes-Einstein equation to calculate a response function to perform the inverse operation of the particle size distribution F(D).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
