PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate in accordance with HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access), to eliminate waste of battery resources in a mobile wireless terminal in operating in a compressed mode, and to effectively utilize base station side HSPDA radio communication resources. PSOLUTION: The provided invention is a method for operating a mobile radio terminal during HSPDA (high speed downlink packet access) communication and in the compressed mode. A transmission gap 202 existent in downlink transmission from a base station is identified, one or more data subframes 208, 210 that overlap the transmission gap 202 are detected, and a reception suspension period 222 including the detected subframes 208, 210 and the transmission gap 202 is determined.
